Kathy is now completing her sixth year serving as the 12 District Councilmember. During this time on council and in her previous 36 year career she has served in leadership roles on numerous community board and initiatives throughout the community and region. From her impressive professional career and her devotion to our community, Kathy has been instrumental in building upon our quality of life in Lexington.
During 36 of those years as well as today, Kathy and her family have lived in the Greenbrier Subdivision located off of Winchester Road in the 12th District. Kathy respects and appreciates the uniqueness of the 12th District, home of our world-renowned horse farms, farmland and natural resources as well as new and vibrant growing new neighborhoods and long-time established neighborhoods. During her six consecutive terms, Councilmember Plomin has played an important role in successfully championing the non-expansion of the Urban Service Boundary.
Councilmember Plomin’s professional career includes 21 years at CBS affiliate WKYT-TV as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. While at the station she served as the National Chair of the CBS Sales and Marketing Council. Following her WKYT-TV tenure Kathy was named President/CEO of the United Way of the Bluegrass, a position she held until 2009. After her departure from United Way, Kathy worked as an independent contractor managing capital campaigns for area non-profits. She also created and voluntarily directs a local women donor’s organization called 100 Women, which financially supports local non-profits that provide supportive programs for women and their children in the Bluegrass
Kathy has been married to John Plomin, Owner and President of Davis & Plomin Mechanical in Lexington, KY, for 42 years. They have two sons, Kyle and Sam, who are also associated with the company.
Kathy was appointed to represent the 12th District by Mayor Jim Gray in October 2016. She will be seeking re-election in 2022.
